RACE MANAGERS MEETING REPORT

Report by PVK

3.1

PVK reported on the race managers meeting of 11 March 2001. (A written report is on ERSA’s website). He was very pleased with the attendance.

The rules on how to run the Summer League and the Championships have not changed. This year’s Summer League will consist of 6 races. Dates have been arranged. Only the date for the Norfolk race has to be confirmed. This year, medals will be presented to all racers placed 1, 2 or 3 regardless of age group. A copy of the Certificate will be put on the ERSA Website for self-completion.

1st ERSA Dual Slalom event will take place on 8 July 2001 at Hemel Ski Center.

ERSA Championships 2001 venue still to be decided. 2 Ski Centers have shown interest to stage the Championships 2001. The Racing Panel will look at all proposals and decide.

ESC rules regarding helmets, ski pole stoppers (now 15 mm in diameter) binding heights, etc. will be enforced at all ERSA races.

Helmets to be worn by all Junior 2 and younger racers for training and races at ERSA events.

3.2

The committee decided on the medals to be used. PVK to look into getting a roll of ribbon rather than buying prepared, more expensive ribbons at the medal shop. PVK to also arrange medals.

TIMING EQUIPMENT

4.1

The Racing Panel had decided on the Alge Timing and PVK presented 4 different written options. After serious discussions, the committee decided on option 2, which will provide ERSA with a new, up-to-date timing for single and dual slalom events without the digital display unit (which can be added in the future). PVK to make sure that the overall price does not exceed £ 6000.00.

If money can be saved and the equipment can be sent from Lustenau, Austria to the Hotel Edelweiss in Kaunertal, Austria at Easter then AH will bring the timing equipment back in his car.

PVK to try to find a buyer for the old ERSA timing (there are several groups interested).

ERSA SQUAD

5.1

PB reported that he had contacted all Club Coaches/Club Race Managers with the request that they talk to their racers who are the proposed ERSA Squad Members for 2001 and is now waiting for the written response from the athletes. Until he knows who will accept a place on the ERSA Squad, he cannot put a program together. However, he plans to have at least 2 Fitness Sessions at Gosling Stadium with the resident Fitness Trainer to help preparing a program for all members. At the same time, he would like to take the Squad to a large Snow Dome in Belgium for a long weekend.

Squad Members will be able to obtain a Squad Sweatshirt. ERSA will subsidize each squad sweatshirt with £ 5.00. Also, all members of the ERSA Team at the Inter Regional Event will be given a top. PB to look into getting these sweatshirts organized.

5.2

The ESC Inter Regional Race this year will take place in Sunderland on 2 July 2001. PB expressed his worry that he may not get 3 teams together. He suggests to aim for 2 teams only and to drive up to Silksworth on Friday evening. He will look into accommodation. He has planned an ERSA subsidy for this camp in his budget to encourage better attendance. PB to contact the racers in form of a handout and via ERSA’s web site. He will need numbers so he can book the accommodation and sort out the transport.

ERSA Summer Glacier Race Training Camp 2001

6.1

ERSA is committed to provide a total of £ 1000.00 for this camp and if it is successful, another camp could be arranged for next year. ERSA will arrange the hotel accommodation for all. Each Club will make its own way to the resort.

As there is not a lot of snow equipment available within the various Clubs of our Region. Therefore, the Eastern Region Snow Club will provide all its slalom poles, drills, keys etc. However, any broken poles/equipment will have to be replaced.

At the Race Managers meeting, the information on the proposed ERSA Summer Glacier Race Training Camp had been handed to all participants and so far Welwyn S C, Brentwood Park S C, Hemel S C, Bassingbourn S C and Suffolk S C have shown real interest. It is hoped that all Clubs will be able to send a group.

It was decided that the camp should aim at the young and/or less experienced snow racers. However, athletes aged 10 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or parent representative. The experienced racers are better served by attending a race training camp with one of the established Alpine Clubs like The Regional Snow Club (contact 01923 400393).

RH to prepare a hand out which will be circulated at the Summer League Races.

RH will be the contact person/administrator for ERSA; i.e. RH will book the hotel, make sure there is a training piste booked, liaise with the Clubs, etc.

PB to prepare a Code of Conduct for all participants.

ERSA will support the Camp by provided the Head Coach and PVK proposed that AH should go out and lead this camp. AH accepted and will prepare daily short seminars and handouts for the attending Coaches. PVK pointed out that the Club Race Trainers and Club Managers decided that the Head Coach does not have a group to look after but has the time to spend with each group on the hill, provide support when and where needed as well as lead the daily de-brief/seminar for the Coaches in the Evening. AH to prepare a written report for the Committee after the Camp.

COACHES PANEL

7.1

The Committee asked the Coaches Panel to organize again for this year,

a 1 day Race Officials Course,

a 1 day Course Setters Course as well as

a 1 day Race Trainer/Coaches Workshop (new).

ERSA will financially support these 3 workshops.

Dates and Venues to be circulated as soon as possible to all Clubs/Trainers/Race Managers and Parents.

P.S.: RH spoke again the Chairman of ROTP on the issue of running a 2-day race official workshop in the Eastern Region. ROTP will discuss this at their next meeting the week after Easter if they could run the 2 day ESC race officials workshop within the Easter Region – not exclusively for members of ERSA but open for anybody (venue must be close to the major Motorways i.e. Welwyn or Hemel). If ERSA would help with the cost of the room hire and make sure that there will be some 10 participants from within ERSA itself, ROTP may be persuaded to go for it.

8.2

Individual Race Insurance: At the Race Managers Meeting it was decided that all competitors, who will take part in any of the ERSA organized races, must be covered by 3rd party and personal injury insurance. This can easily be achieved by joining the ESC as a competitor and/or as a member of a Club that is registered with the ESC. It is up of each Club to see that this rule is adhered to.
